Not the suits, but of course my husband (since 1972) wore those striped bell-bottoms, and he was and remains a conservative dresser. But somewhere I still have a very similar Simplicity pattern with a women's pantsuit that I made for myself, sometime in that era. Not to mention the pattern for the simple, empire-waisted dress I sewed for my wedding.
Thank you for the Cathy Horyn piece— her reckoning with Fashion was wonderful to read. Not to mention giving me hope that one can emerge from a styleless decade (or two?) into a beautifully confident Self.
OMG that trailer for The Substance!! Thank you also for sharing the link to voter registration, which I just shared on Substack Notes. Happy almost birthday! I'm 61 soon and have vague memories of 59; I like the cliffhanger years!
Perhaps not. I lost a lot of photos when a water line in the house failed when we were away. She made the suits (there were more than one) in te 1970's.
Fantastic round-up!Not only did men wear outfits like that in the 70s, but women too--the flare pantsuit ruled!
The belted "leisure suit" was for everyone. Lol.
I don't know...I grew up in the 70's and I never ever seen a male of any age wear those ridiculous pantsuits.
😂 I definitely saw men in similar fashions.
Midwestern couple here, I was 18 and he was 21 in 1974. We never saw, nor did he wear, "those ridiculous pantsuits". Perhaps it was a coastal style?
I'd guess you're right...I'm in KS, and the most wild thing we wore were bells and hip-huggers; dudes wore bells too.
Probably.
We wore them. Even at work!
Amazing!!
Happy Friday....and those Harris Walz lawn signs!!!!!
I love them.
HAPPY UPCOMING BIRTHDAY, SARI!
Thanks, Tracy! <3

Yes, I found it inspiring too.
“What does it mean to be ‘cool’ after 60, and does it even matter?" Cool means going the opposite direction of everyone else. And yes, it matters : )

Thank you, Suzan! 💕
Oooh. Five new questions for the Oldster Questionnaire. An opportunity for me to do five new cartoons! Put me in, coach! https://oldster.substack.com/p/this-is-67-cartoonist-peter-moore
I’ll send them to you!
My then wife (now Ex) had that pattern and made a suit for me. I wore it a lot.
Omg!! Do you have any photos?

Just have to say, I *love* the Modern Sounds playlist.
Glad to hear! Cliff Chenfeld has great taste.
I’m so sorry to read that Julie Novak died - sending my condolences 🌷
Thank you, Christine. ❤️
I love those 2 piece sets! I need those exact prints haha.
"Leisure suits" lol.
Saturday is the 21st
Ooops! Fixing... Thank you.
My mother sewed some of those ‘70s duds! I remember rifling through all her patterns and fabric stash—reams of it!
Looking forward to Pathway to 60. And yes, you can be sure I’m voting for Harris/ Walz!
