I don't take much time off! If I do, I usually double up the week before and pre-schedule posts. I love what I'm doing, and it's also helping me stay sane though this horrible time. Thank you for supporting what I do! It means so much to me, and will allow me to do some new things. I am grateful to you, Ruth Ann. ๐
Once again, Sari, the weekend round up could last me for several weekends. It is wonderful. I am working my way through a number of pieces you shared. Recently I took a fall. It truly startled and surprised me, and I am glad to say I am just fine. That post on falling I read thoroughly, and it offered quite good tips. Thanks for all you do to make Oldster such a great place to visit.
Aww, thank you, Mary. I'm so sorry to hear you fell. Take good care. PS I'm so happy you enjoy Oldster so much! Means a lot to me. I appreciate your support. <3
What people see in a picture really tells you about how and what they think.
I mistakenly thought the article picture must have been aerial footage of American planes bombing German cities, with flak rounds going off all around the planes.
Never-mind, apparently its just a winter picture of a tree.
It's so cool to see you here as an Oldster! I live in Lafayette, LA (I retired from the University a year or so ago). I remember the event for the Louisiana Book Award and we (students and faculty) so enjoyed your book and your visit. I am also a University of Louisiana Press Author (The Word for When). I will definitely look for Is This Thing On? I am always impressed by Sari's Links, and the contributors to the conversations. It's such a small world, isn't it?
I use this YouTube link for the Menil Collection in Huston, Tx. Many varied arts programs and interviews with artists, young and old. I recommend paying YouTube Premium ($18) as it eliminates ads. https://youtube.com/@themenilcollection?si=ifTUgJVZQLumnBmH
Thanks so much for the link to Valerie Monroeโs piece on the scourge of facial conformity. My ire at the wave of plastic people has begun to ruin so many movies and tv showsโI canโt stop railing about it to my long-suffering husband! Nice to find likeminded company and a truly thoughtful take
Thank you for all this excellent content Sari. I bought a beautiful hand carved cane a few years ago to use when needed. It will be my fashion statement ๐
I have a recommendation of a couple of books that Oldsters might love: Remnant Population by Elizabet Moon and The Dream-Quest of Vellit Boe by Kij Johnson. They would be classified as speculative fiction or science fiction or, in the case of the Johnson book, fantasy. In any case an older woman is the central figure of the book.
This week's Oldster Roundup is incredible! Thank you Sari for all the reading and research you do on our behalf! Particularly enjoyed Ashton Applewhite on starting to use a cane at 73. As someone who is having ot make a lot of adjustments (at 61) due to brain-based symptoms not unlike the ones Ashton describes (from Long Covid in my case), it was just what I needed today!
Great minds! Also, I hate the weather condition called "wintry mix," but it makes a good headline about a collection of items published during a snowy January.
I donโt know how you produce so much content and run so many businesses! Do you ever take a day off?

More gratitude to Ruth Ann from HNTFUYF! x

Oh, wow.
Is This Thing On? Is one of my favorite films of 2025! It's well done.
I can't wait to see it!

Glad you enjoyed this, Jody. Sorry to hear about the long Covid.
Thanks lovely x
Thanks for all this!
<3
Thank you, Sari, for that lovely shout-out! (And all the other terrific links, as usual.) x
A pleasure, Val. <3
And p.s. I've also used "wintry mix" in next week's HNTFUYF post, referring to the fantastic piece in the NYorker by the brilliant Kathryn Schulz... x

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Thank you for mentioning my story, Sari. Really appreciate it.
My pleasure, Deborah. <3
Wow, another amazing compendium. Thanks, Sari!
Thank you Sari!
Hope you had a great birthday, Kathy! And congrats on the anniversary, too. <3
Thanks so much for including my interview with Melanie Sanders. WDNC is a much needed force for good.
