โ€œIโ€™m wearing a two-piece. I have never graduated to a one piece, though I did get the memo that at a certain ageโ€”an age Iโ€™m well pastโ€”youโ€™re supposed to stop wearing bikinis. I donโ€™t like the cold wetness of a one piece when I get out of the water, and thatโ€™s that.โ€

I loved everything about this experience and your sharing of it. I am 57 and this body has given birth to four children. I will not wear a one piece for exactly the same reason you stated, and the fact that as a short, curvy gal and one piece makes me look boxy, and Makes me feel unattractive. I love the advice, the tends to come out every spring on social media that says how to get a bikini body. Buy a bikini and put it on your body; there you go, you have a bikini body.

Thank you for sharing this amazing experience and the wisdom of a brave woman beautifully embracing her crone years.

What a gorgeous, uplifting and joyful essay! Jordan's tourism department should use it in their marketing.

I absolutely loved reading this!! I love a massage, I love a hammam, and I've only ever experienced versions of these in North America. I am absolutely envious of this experience. Jordan is now on my bucket list. What delicious writing, and I just love the picture of post-massage tea.

I credit seeing older women unabashedly and unhurriedly changing in my local YWCA with my own relatively-precocious ease with situational nudity. There's so much to be said for the comfort and joy of shedding clothing in non-sexual circumstances -- massage, hammam, public baths, change rooms, skinny dipping, saunas, et cetera. Aside from how much more pleasant a lot of these things are without clothing or bathing suits, there's a real soul-pleasure in being perfectly neutral about one's own naked body, and being in the presence of other equally unbothered people.

Beautifully said! Here, here.

Thank you for this essay, and this truth: โ€œthere are gifts to being 61. I love my body more now, even with all its sagging and crinkliness, because itโ€™s stronger. Because I'm stronger. Because strength makes me feel deliciously confident. Confident I can handle potentially difficult situations with more grace and agency.โ€ I too am 61 and I too feel this about my body which (thank goodness) is strong and agile. When life hands you your ass, as it does, you value and prize solid thighs, a confident heart, bony and misshapen feet that take you places.

LOVE the emphasis on sensuality, and nonshaming of sensory feelings. I plan to keep aging this way going forward, and it's great to have such a powerful example. Thanks, Corinne, for showing the way!

Thank you Alicia!

Yes...in praise of sensuality.
