Oldster Endorses Kamala Harris for President. Plus, an open thread for those who plan to help mobilize voters. And my answer to your questions about the media's handling of Biden's age.
I haven't seen this kind of hope and enthusiasm in American politics since the run-up to Obama's first term. As a Brit with a new government that just swung us back towards decency, I'm cheering at you all from across the Pond: bring it on. Bring it on.
YAY to England (my mummy's homeland) and YAY to the U.S., the place I call home. We feel your cheers from across that great big pond Mike. Praise the Lord- even if one doesn't believe in a Lord....hee hee
I’ve been donating to Democrats for years and in 2016, l have donated more money to reproductive freedom organizations like Planned Parenthood and RFFA. Their little he-man-woman-haters clubs want to keep (poor) women knocked up while they can get their Cialis in the mail? They can GF themselves.
I’m in a blue state (NYS) but I bought a house four years ago in a rural red county with FJB & MAGA signs and banners. I just found out my county’s Democratic committee is having an organizational meeting to plan support for Harris. I’ll be there with my checkbook and I’ll be volunteering for whatever they need done. I’m retired, l have time, and I am ready to go to the mattress over this election.
Women are uniting to bring the win for Kamala. I'm 69, live in Paris France, and serve as Co-Chair for Democrats Abroad France Women's Caucus and Co-Chair for Democrats Abroad France Black Caucus. We are united in France to see our first Woman President!!!!
Democrats Abroad is a Global Organization and works with the DNC. It is all around the world. https://www.democratsabroad.org/countries. If you know anyone living abroad or attending school abroad who may not have heard of Dems Abroad, please forward them the link. We need everybody voting!
I’m a 70 year old white woman in Florida. I’m so excited about the energy and enthusiasm to fight for democracy. I am writing letters to voters in swing states urging them to vote. I am also door knocking with Indivisible’s Neighbor-to-Neighbor (N2N) project to get out the vote. I will have a Kamala Harris sign in my yard, and I contribute money. I’ve done these same things for Hillary Clinton (plus phone banking) and Barack Obama, and some local and state level candidates. I am introverted so the door knocking and calling are challenging for me, but I want to be someone who says I did all I could.
I'm 57. I live in Knoxville, Tenn. (Eighth-generation Knoxvillian) The guy who called Harris a DEI hire, Timmy, is my congressional representative and went to high school with my first husband. Senate challenger Gloria Johnson and I share a hairstylist. I have voted in every election since Dukakis (including voting for Gore in Florida in 2000) but have never volunteered. I have signed up to phone bank for Kamala Harris through Fated Mates podcasts Fated States link and will probably also phone bank for Timmy's congressional challenger, Jane George.
Hey fellow Big Ears enthusiast! My husband and I have been there every March for the last three years and looking forward to next years! We love Knoxville!
I am 69 years old living in NY State. I hadn't planned on getting involved in the election until perhaps now after reading this piece....just now. I have friends who are involved and I will follow their lead. I have never volunteered in support of a candidate before. I have never believed that my small contribution could make any difference. Thank you for your nudge.
I am 79, I live in Texas, I have donated to the Harris campaign this week. I will write postcards, have a yard sign, and talk with others about supporting her. I will look for other opportunities to help.
I'm a 70-year old white male living in Northwestern CT and Brooklyn, NY (I vote in NY). I will donate to the Harris campaign shortly, and will phone bank when the election draws a bit closer.
I did not interpret calls for Biden to drop out as ageism, and frankly think he should have passed the torch a lot earlier. I cheered Ezra Klein's proposal back in February for Biden to step aside and for the Dem's to orchestrate a competitive open convention. While I still wish that would have happened, I am now all-in for Kamala. This is a must-win situation and I think we can do it. (A very minor point: I'd prefer "She's with Us!" to "I'm with Her!")
Yes, glad he stepped down, wish he would have honored his “just one term” promise from the start and passed the torch to her sooner. But this is where we are, and we jump in now. And we get busy!
It’s not a slam dunk and that’s why Biden should not step down. Congress , currently controlled by Republicans, would have to approve. Mike Johnson wouldn’t, making himself next in line to be President.
These are the Aholes that shut the government down out of spite. They’ll hurt anyone to bully their policies forward. We must oust this rancid attitude.
Thank you for this, Sari! After last night's call I am motivated, inspired, and hopeful.
A few things about me (to answer your questions):
I'm 45, live in Las Vegas, NV and volunteered for the Bernie campaign in 2019/2020. My husband and I filmed rallies, caucused, made calls, had hard conversations, swayed hearts and minds, and made a difference here. He won our state, but not the nomination.
I was heartbroken to be honest. I swore off politics after that. I swore I'd never get involved again.
I'm breaking that promise to myself now. I plan to go to the launch of her campaign headquarters near me. I plan to make calls/send texts. I plan to knock doors when it's cooler outside. I plan to write about it all. I plan to attend rallies and help fundraise. I will have the hard conversations again. I will make the case for why we should all vote.
💙🥥🌴 thank you, Sari! Thank you, Mesa. I’m choosing not to center myself here. I signed up for the postcard campaign with https://www.fieldteam6.org/ super cool. Excited after the call last night. Let this campaign be evolutionary revolutionary one of what Senator John Lewis would call Good Trouble. May we also cultivate generosity and practice goodwill and compassionate listening. And of course vote!
I am 51 I live in Michigan. I donated this week to Harris. I have a Biden Harris lawn sign soon to be replaced by a Harris sign. I have been canvassing in Detroit for Biden/Harris and I can’t wait to get to work this weekend for my girl! I canvass with my 13 year old daughter. I may do postcards too (did it in 2020 when I lived in MA)
I’m 72 and am astonished by the surge of excitement I’ve felt since Biden stepped aside and Kamala roared into her campaign - ! I have already donated generously to her and am going to knock on doors in my remote area of Maine as well as write postcards. I think the Dems can win and, literally, preserve Democracy whereas a week ago I was in despair. Thanks Sari for posing this question!
I will do what I have done before, writing postcards to marginalized voters informing them of the location of their polling places and when early voting begins. I donate through act blue and the Movement Voter Project. Even though I live in Connecticut now I still am part of an activist group called the Brooklyn Resisters and usually subscribe to efforts listed by them. They are fantastic group. I am also planning on canvassing in PA some September weekends - and yes yes yes, Kamala. Thanks for starting this thread!
I recently moved to a new state and had changed my affiliation to no party but since Biden dropped out I switched back to democrat. I also checked out my new county's democrats website. I will be writing postcards to voters, opinion pieces to newspapers, and possibly do phone banks. I may knock on doors also when the weather gets cooler. I feel much more hopeful now. And after JD Vance's crazy cat lady comments, I started this petition. https://www.change.org/NOMOREBULLIESINTHEWHITEHOUSE
I'm also going to work hard to get another democratic governor for our state and do everything in my power to stop the republican running for it who said "some folks need killing" in a church of all places. Finally, going to work hard to stop the Republican running for superintendent of our schools. She homeschooled her own kids but wants to tell our teachers how to do their jobs in the public schools. Wowl
As a childless person, I usually leave education races to those with (little) skins in the game. But now that bullying buffoons have made schools part of their repressive strategy, I can’t step away any more. Their hateful attitudes are like ticking timebombs in such an inappropriate place, like the corrupt beholden judges being cherry-picked for dubiously legal paybacks…
Gotta hand it to them, the stealth Forced Birth long game strategy has been working too well. In WA, it’s far right churches buying up the rural hospitals, denying a doctor’s decision. Finally the state stepped in and pushed back.
To be fair, my parents both worked in public Education/Ed police at the state level and my sister and I went to private HS. It's just what we needed. It didn't make my parents any less committed to or good at their work. They are both remembered for their groundbreaking, life changing roles.
I’m 58 and live in PA. Harris has my vote (and while I’d hate to lose him, I’m hoping she picks Shapiro as a running mate). I will canvass in my city, and write postcards.
I’m 65, live in Northern Virginia, and have signed on with Red Wine and Blue. I’ve put up signs before, donated, and helped cure ballots in the last election (I’m an introvert and was hyperventilating the entire time). I plan to do something—donate, write postcards, advocate for Harris with friends, family, and co-workers, maybe help people register to vote—anything to help defeat TFG! I feel the fizz of joy in Kamala; I feel happier just seeing her huge smile. The mien of TFG is so dour and angry…how can anyone want to be governed by that lying, angry, old white man?

Don't Knock Knoxville!! That guy doesn't deserve to represent the home of Big Ears Festival.
Hey fellow Big Ears enthusiast! My husband and I have been there every March for the last three years and looking forward to next years! We love Knoxville!
We do a Big Ears staycation every year!
I attended Big Ears in 2018 and hope to go next year! I've never been to such an eclectic music festival, and the lineups just keep getting better.

Do you get a yard sign for donating or did you buy your own?
You can always get a free yard sign from any candidates’ office. Call the one closest to you.
Sending courage from Canada. 🇨🇦
Same! 🇨🇦

She could actually be President right now…
It’s speculation if that would be advantageous in November, but it’s still on the spectrum of possibilities.
Absolutely not wishing any harm to President Biden, who has earned my gratitude. But if he were to resign early, she is automatically promoted.
It’s not a slam dunk and that’s why Biden should not step down. Congress , currently controlled by Republicans, would have to approve. Mike Johnson wouldn’t, making himself next in line to be President.
I thought succession was ensconced legally. Isn’t that the point of the VP?
Thanks. I would love to know what laws relate to congressional approval.
It’s true, those bastards will stoop to anything.
I think the Congress issue is they wouldn't approve a new VPOTUS if Harris ascended to POTUS, making MJ the next in line as SOTH.
These are the Aholes that shut the government down out of spite. They’ll hurt anyone to bully their policies forward. We must oust this rancid attitude.
I like “She’s with Us!” And as a branding strategist I'd say the point is anything but minor.
Thank you for this, Sari! After last night's call I am motivated, inspired, and hopeful.

Erika—writing postcards sounds like something I could really do. Thanks for the idea!
Many organizations doing postcard programs, I hope you find one to get you started now. So easy, just follow their script, they provide the rest.
Just got a batch of postcards from the organization, "Postcards to Swing States." So glad you suggested this!
Awesome! I am getting mine today, too :)
Oh, good! I need to get some more.
