I am thrilled as always to be a part of Sari Botton's world. For anyone interested, I will be hosting a Zoom conversation on writing craft this Saturday from 3 to 4 EST. I'll be speaking about creating collage pieces--how do you know what to include and what to leave out? How do you know where to start and when to leave? You are also invited to send ahead questions about your own writing projects. To learn more and RSVP, please email me at: lauriestone@substack.com
He is that guy, society encouraged it and you [squirmy wife] enabled it because society told you that was your job and you had no voice of your own.... So accurate. Last week I visited a UU church to see if that might be a place for community (spoiler alert, it is on its last legs). So many 80+ men with very prominent opinions! Telling and not listening! Ugh, it is everywheree.
Thanks so much! Can you make it to the Zoom conversation this Saturday from 3 to 4 EST? If you want a link, please email me at: lauriestone@substack.com
There are “mistakes” that are born to cherish. I can be wrong but I think it was in “Some Like it Hot” that Marilyn Monroe said breathlessly “I’ve always wanted to go to Europe France!”
It would have been churlish to laugh at her. It’s stayed in my heart for decades. Last week I quoted (or misquoted) it to two gay friends whose bathroom is plastered with her pictures. They didn’t remember it but loved it. It would be churlish to correct me. Tomorrow I’m flying to Europe France. C’est vrai!🛫🇫🇷
I'm 85. My daughter is 54. I live with my old, creaky husband on a small farm in Northern California, in fire country. Also 4-foot snow country but only occasionally. I thought we had a good time, my daughter and I, we hadn't seen each other in a year. We went shopping. We talked. Her father died 6 months ago and she's always flying to Milwaukee to clean out his house. When she got there this time, she had a great idea. My husband and I should move to her father's house in Milwaukee, where we'd be safe and could look after the house. What if we didn't know anybody, or have a doctor, or anything vital to us there? We'd be in her house. We'd be safe. I haven't got my head around this yet to ask her, "Honey, what do you mean by safe?"
yes, i want to know what food you're preparing! i'm sure it will be delicious, as all your concoctions are, be they edible or readable. the joy in that "mothafuckas"—i'm salivating with righteous bile and it tastes so tart and good right now.
This makes me happy to hear. Might you be interested in coming to an upcoming Zoom conversation on these techniques? It's on Saturday from 3 to 4 EST, and I can give you details if you write to me at: lauriestone@substack.com
I do sometimes find our preoccupation with generational differences maddening. I was born in 1980 and so am technically Gen X but also Millennial. But in fact, I don't feel like I identify overly with either generation. I do think a lot of this focus on generational differences is to do with finding markets to sell to.

Talk to the women who make you want to listen and make you happy. The men is picking out the bits of pork from the fried rice. xxL
So much in your writing always, to make me think, to relate to. I feel I should take notes.
The RCA dog head tilt line is brilliant. Huge fan of Everything is Personal xo

Have a great trip, Irwin.
No screen writer could say those lines like she did.
Those were not her words. There was a screenwriter.

Also maybe ask, Who do you think I am? Great comment. Don't go! xxL
Wouldn't dream of it! Thanks! Your words always encourage me, in the sense of infusing me with courage.
