The first thing I thought after reading this moving tribute early on a Monday morning, was how glad I am to have read it. What a rich and beautiful life. My deepest condolences to his family and all who knew and loved him.

Thank you for posting this notice of Paul Zolbrod's death. His edition of the Navajo creation story is one of the great achievements in 20th century literary production. The Dine Bahane ranks with the other great creation stories of the world.

Sari, if not for you and Oldster I would probably never have heard of Paul Zolbrod. Instead, I am slowly savoring his marvelous translation of Diné Bahane’, which I would never have had access to if not for him. I wish I could have known him personally. I am very grateful for this much. My sadness-with his family and friends (Anglo-Saxon for “condolences”).

"He loved the sound of language, and he helped so many of us fall in love with it as well." What a beautiful legacy Paul left.

Clearly a life that mattered. I loved the piece Paul wrote about how his military service changed the trajectory of his life. May his life be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

I send heartfelt condolences, because he wrote his questionnaire when he was only 4 years older than I am now (answering the same questionnaire.) His writing is beautiful...more beautiful than mine, I fear....yet his answers (mini-essays) meant a great deal to me. Thanks for printing this.

Paul Zolbrod was an amazing guy. We became acquainted only a few years ago, but his brilliance as an intellectual and writer was obvious from Day One. The tributes from his former students on Facebook speak to his qualities as a teacher as well. He is being remembered by hundreds if not thousands of people throughout the US. Godspeed, Paul. Walk in beauty!

I hope I'm still writing like Paul when I'm in my 90s. May his memory be a blessing.
