I love this story. It makes me laugh, and I can relate! Him standing there with the two trash bags is hilarious.

Few conquests are as satisfying (or miraculous) as the feral cat finding her place and resting in the sunlight. Lovely story.

Thank you so much, Staci. This moved me to tears. Especially these parts:

"Like any feral thing, I was unprepared for the cruelty of men."

"After a wild thing is wounded, what does it do? It flees. Hides. Buries its tracks so that no one can sense vulnerability. Survival is key. Make a home for solitude and heartache until it feels normal."

I don’t read every story here, but when I do, I feel seen. And for the feral to be seen is a wild mix of emotion. Fight or flee? Beam or weep?

Beautiful. Excuse me while I tend to my feral heart.

Wow, I relate to this so much, down to the Virginia Slims and THAT GIRL fantasy. I got down the "move to NYC to be an actress" part. I've been on my own most of my life, and I didn't think I wanted to date, much less marry again after my divorce 11 years ago. And, yet, I may be having a change of heart. Oh, man, I'm gonna have to start shaving my legs again!

I love this so much! Not only because I married a Larry when I was 47, but also because of the beautiful descriptions and raw feelings. And of course, Miss Kitty Carlise curled up on the carpet in a patch of sun.

Loved this, although I am not holding my breath while I wait for my place in the sun. My frostbitten ears and ragged scars seem to discourage most potential mates, so I remain wild and untamed. Feral is the perfect metaphor.

The first time I had lunch as friends with my (now) husband, I told him emphatically, "I am NEVER getting married again." He had never been married. Almost exactly three years later, at age 46 and 48, we had a very lovely wedding!

Well written and I can relate. I hope your first and his fifth will be long and joyous. I escaped two bad marriages and have been without any relationship for about five years now. My three kids are all grown (and doing well) and living in other states --three different states too. I don't exactly feel lonely but it occurred to me recently that maybe I'm missing out on having a good friend and companion to share life with and that maybe instead of being strong, I'm just avoiding out of fear.

Love this story so much. And related on so many levels, having gotten married at 49, and living in LA.
