So fun reading about a time and place so far from my own experience. Love that bar/hotel/post office scene! Quite the dance. I really enjoyed reading this! thank you! What a delight.
Love it. I and two buddies and I took off on a similar follow-your-nose road adventure from Pennsylvania to ultimately, Prince Edward Island in my dad's 1948 wood-bodied Chevy wagon. Love the energy here! You capture the joy and lunacy of such larks so well!
That was just one of the best stories I’ve read in a very long time! It’s funny but being an American as teenagers we always thought Australians and the British were the cool ones!
Hahahaha: love it. Dig the Kerouac reference; I’m only 40 now but as a wild drinker and writer On the Road changed my life when I first read it circa 2005. I followed in Kerouac’s footsteps: sold my stuff and thumbed all over the nation. It was riveting. I had incredible experiences.
Anyway: thanks for sharing your story. Totally relate.
I could feel the joy back then and the pleasure of writing it now. Bravo!
This is so funny and delightful!
Great stories Doug. Look forward to more similar stories! Cheers
Laughed out loud!

Charming. Captured the youth of the era perfectly.
