Positivity without pretension. How nice. And best of all, less (make-up) is more—and from a makeup maven. How refreshing.

Total icon. Met her once while I was working for an Italian Vogue stylist who did something with her, and, most flatteringly, she actually asked me about doing something with her, I guess because I also did minimal makeup in her style at the time. Then I became a cartoonist! Now (for budget reasons, because at 60 my income isn't exactly going UP anymore) (that's a consideration for makeup products for older women, ahem!) I barely use anything, ha ha, but I guess I could still look like me in photos using her stuff.

I love this, Carolita. Thanks for sharing.

I love Jones Road and sometimes I put on one of the little shimmers even when I’m going nowhere - it just makes me feel good and I really think that’s why she made them. At 62 years old, I remember Bobbie Brown makeup well - it was huge! I love how she moved on and created something else we all love. Oh and I also love my Hippie Stick! I use it for everything. Thank you Bobbi!

It's good stuff.

Love this!

Even though she's only 5 years older than me, Bobbi is my answer to your question about aging role models. I think about life for me at 68 and I hope it looks a lot like hers, (minus the working all the time part!).

Great interview! I've always respected her. She was ahead of her time—an outlier.

I remember seeing her backstage at some of the shows when I worked production. She was always very present, diligent, but normal, unaffected by the "glitz." If she were ever hiring, I'd love to work for her.

Fabulous! I worked as a resident makeup artist for Bobbi Brown for years in Chicago. Cool to see her here.

Oh, wow! Thanks, Starina.

I’m a BB/Jones Road superfan on the other side of 75. Miracle Balm is my best (and nearly only) makeup friend. More than an excellent product line is the ethos behind it. That’s the part that really matters. Never stop working Bobbi; the world needs you!

I remember flipping through one of her makeup books, ages ago, and stopping at her quote, "I believe Asian women are among the most beautiful in the world." This was when you didn't see many Asians in America in the mainstream, and that stuck ~ and well, made me a fan ever since. 😁

Reading her interview, I had no idea she's 68, or left her brand, or started a new one! What an inspiration. Thank you ladies. xo

I love when an Oldster drops in my lap like a gift! I'm about to turn 68 so "This is 68" is particularly interesting to me. But more than that, I've been feeling stuck in a way that has made me feel like I need to just do something else because how long can I work at this writing thing anyway? Well, always I guess. It's not like I can retire from being a writer, as Bobbi Brown isn't going to retire from her work. It was the inspiration I needed this week and I'm sorry I wasn't more familiar with this "oldster" before. Sounds like a good role model for me!

How perfect! Glad to hear it, Cindy. <3

I was delighted to read your Oldster Questionnaire responses since I have always found your makeup line natural and enhancing.

Now at age 88, I wonder which specific makeup items would still be enhancing, since I have never erased any of my newly discover facial wrinkles. Could makeup still work well on my face. Of course I embrace my different natural lipstick shades and wear mascara and eyeliner to enhance my eyes, but what about foundation or powder? Just some thoughts.

Sari Botton's avatar

I'll see if I can get her to give some tips. She's been on a big book tour and more, but I'll ask!

Thanks for asking Bobbi about it whenever you have the chance and she’s available to respond. It’s important for any of us who want to minimilize the appearance of our wrinkles.

You've got it, Bella!

If you could find a foundation or a tinted moisturizer that just naturally evens out your skin without going into your lines or making you look cakey or dry, it’s a game changer. I would recommend looking at the WTF at Jones Road because it’s a combination of skincare and a moisturizer. It works really well on dry skin and does not settle into lines.

Thank you so much for responding, Bobbi, and with such a useful recommendation. <3

Tinted moisturizer, that's the key. You can find it at every price point- try L'Oreal. Powder is probably a no-no at your age.

This is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing this piece. It's just what I needed today.

Still a Bobbi Brown ( now Jones Road) customer. I met you at Ann Harris’s wedding and enjoyed the reception dancing with you.

I am complimented every day that my face glows. Best products ever. Thank you Bobbi!

I've found that if I accept my limitations as they present themselves and adjust accordingly my body and my mind are enough just the way they are 🤷🏽
