Most of All, I'm Thankful For All Of You...
What are you thankful for this year? An open thread. Plus, a special holiday offer...
Readers,
Let me open this Thanksgiving post by expressing how grateful I am to all of you. Your subscriptions, positive feedback, comments, and contributions make it possible for me to keep putting this magazine out week after week. In fact, the other day I learned that you’ve helped me become a Substack bestseller!
As a thank you, now through December 31st I’m offering a 10% discount on paid subscriptions. They make great gifts—for the people on your list, and for you. Soon there’ll be more paywalled content that you won’t want to miss. But more importantly, paid subscriptions support my work and that of Oldster’s many contributors, whom I pay. Use this special link to get the discount:
So, all of you are among the biggest sources of gratitude for me this year. Another biggie: This year I got to publish my memoir-in-essays, And You May Find Yourself… with wonderful Heliotrope Books. This has been a lifelong dream, and Heliotrope’s Naomi Rosenblatt made it come true. Thank you, Naomi!!! (Another good gift idea! Just sayin’. Hey, a girl’s gotta eat.) The book has been nicely received, and publishing it has brought with it many additional opportunities I’m grateful for. (The list is too long for a little post like this!)
Now I want to hear about the things you’re most thankful for. In the comments, tell me about the biggest ways in which you’ve been blessed this year.
Thank you, subscribers, for all your support. Thank you for joining me in this ongoing exploration of what it means to “travel through time in a human body, at every phase of life.” At a dark, nonsensical time in this country and the world, you have uplifted me and given me a sense of greater purpose.
Wishing you all a happy holiday. 🦃

This may sound corny, apologies, but - as someone else with a newsletter they're hopeful of building up into something that could maybe do a bit of good in the world, I'm grateful of learning from your example, Sari. I'm learning a *lot*. You know what you're doing here.
But of course I'm British, so we don't do this gratefulness thing at this time of year. No, no. It's all an act. We're cold and aloof and consider gratitude a sign of weakness.

It’s been a year of significant loss (9 year relationship, 5 year job, and most of all, my BFF & Mom is rapidly losing herself to dementia) but I look at this time with gratitude, for resilience, and also with thankfulness, because losing something that mattered means there was love. And love is a gift, so I feel lucky. And I’m SO thankful to you, Sari, for shining a light on so many fascinating writers and creating this space to share from our hearts ❤️
